Price the pick as a range, not a player

Use early, mid and late rookie-pick scenarios to test an offer without pretending future draft order is known.

Price the pick as a range, not a player

A future rookie pick is a choice you will make later, not a named player's guaranteed production. The final draft position, eligible class and landing spots are uncertain. A useful comparison tests that uncertainty rather than hiding it inside one precise-looking value.

Specify all three parts

Use the rookie-pick calculator to choose a draft year, a round and an Early/Mid/Late range. The current future-pick controls cover 2027–2029 and rounds one through three. The engine retains 2026 picks only as historical reference assets because that rookie draft has already happened.

“Early” and “Late” are scenario labels, not a claim that the tool has projected your league's final standings. If the pick belongs to a contender, test the Late scenario. If the owner's future is uncertain, compare all three ranges before deciding what the offer means.

Understand the time assumption

The published model starts from round-and-range references, applies a Superflex adjustment when relevant, and discounts each year beyond 2027 by a factor of 0.88. That is an explicit time-preference assumption, not a forecast of the quality of a future rookie class. A special class may deserve a different personal judgment; the calculator does not claim to know it in advance.

Team count also affects the pick reference. A “mid first” in a small league and one in a deep league can represent different parts of the rookie pool. Match your league size before comparing a pick with a veteran.

Ownership and projected position are different

A Sleeper import can identify which roster owns a future pick according to the returned traded-pick records. It cannot make that pick's future draft position certain. Imported supported picks therefore start as Mid and retain an original-roster identifier. This lets two different teams' firsts remain distinct without pretending either final slot is known.

Generic picks can be repeated when your offer contains several picks of the same range. A physical imported pick cannot be duplicated across both receiving packages. Check the original owner and the current owner against your league before making an actual offer.

Use a scenario that can change your mind

Start with the likely case, then change the most important uncertain input. If swapping one Mid first to Late turns an even offer into a substantial gap, the deal depends on that uncertainty. You can acknowledge that in your negotiation, ask for a different balancing asset, or decide the risk suits your rebuild.

The pick-value table makes the engine's references easy to compare. Add a pick from that table to prefill the calculator and keep the complete settings. Read the first-round-pick guide before treating a pick as a universal substitute for a starter.
